bulk .223 ammo and reloading
« on: January 18, 2016, 01:09:47 PM »
I'm looking to buy a bunch of bulk .223 ammo and want to make sure I can reload it.  Being new to reloading, what do I need to look for and what do I need to avoid?

I avoid anything that isn't brass cased and watch out for crimped primers. The primer pockets can usually be saved when crimped but at this point in time you can still find decent deals on quality ammo that will leave you with some good brass after you shoot it and leave out the primer pocket work.

freedommunitions.com. sells inexpensive .223. I have reloaded their brass. The only issue is that it is reloaded brass so you don't know the count. You just have to inspect each case. Since your new to reloading I would recommend just buying some inexpensive but new ammo that is not military. That way you won't have to deal with the crimp.

LC stamped brass (Lake City) is hard to beat unless it has been shot out of a machine gun.  I pretty much shoot LC brass.  Yes you will have to swage but I prefer better brass to begin with.

I don't reload any 223 anymore. You can buy it cheap and there's alot out there now. Unless you want to learn on it. Also, I've never had good luck with ' range ammo ' either. One fired brass from the range.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
