California Pigs

Made a trip to California this past weekend and had a great hunt! Got two big wild pigs on a spot & stalk hunt

Always wanted to do a pig hunt. Did you go guided? With who? Cool looking pigs.

It was a guided hunt on a private ranch.I went with Lockwood Hunting Services out of Ukiah, but the hunt was near Hopland. Spot & stalk hunt. It was a great hunt. He has a booth at the sportsmans show if you're going.

Hunted with Tim last year.  Good fun and great price just a long drive.  Trying another outfitter this February that costs a bit more but 4 hours less driving.  After that I will know where to go from here on out!

It is a long drive, that's a fact. Going down I split the drive over two days because of weather going through the mountains at OR/CA border. I had the camper on the back of the chevy, so it was easy to just pull into a rest stop for the night, cook some dinner and hit the rack.  I'll be going back every winter. I tried one about 3 hours further North last year, but it wasn't as a good an experience as I had with Tim.

I'd rather not say on the interweb. It might look like I"m bashing someone's business which I don't want to do. They're nice people and the guide worked hard for us. I just had a better hunt and a better time with  Lockwood.

Here's the break down of what I spent for the whole trip:
CA license  $165
pig tags $75/each
guide fee $750
guide fee for 2nd pig $500
fuel for my chevy w/ camper on the back @ $450
food @ $40
They let me park my camper on the ranch & camp for no charge

Would have saved $100 on the guide fee and 1/2 the gas, but my buddy backed out at the lsat minute because he wanted to go to a birthday party, instead.

California has officially given up on the war of invasive pigs, and hopes to sit back and capitalize on their abundance.
