I take objection that this -being in the trapping forum- insinuates that a trapper on HW may have set this.
"who is the idiot"
No one on HW trapping forum, this screams anti-trapping advocate or mischievous teen who wasn't taught right from wrong.
I could move it but my take on it is this is something that directly effects trappers and really of little consequence to others. Let it stay where those most effected will see it.
I really don't think it was an anti. I mean what is to gain by making foot hold traps look bad in WA. We already cannot use them. I see two scenarios that sound plausible. One is that it was a kid. Found the trap in the garage and decided to set it and catch something. Set it close to home because not old enough to drive.
The other is some homeowner who is having problems with coyotes, raccoons or whatever and wants them gone.
Neither have a clue about the law are not trappers and apparently lack common sense.
I bet who did it lives near by.
I used to own a bunch of 650s. Really an animal friendly trap, maybe hard to set and remove but I never saw any foot damage from them. I caught a small dog once down in OR in one. Not sure the breed but built like a basset hound. 48 hour check and he was fine. Nice little dog and he was a couple miles up in the woods from his house. I wondered how many steps that was with those short little legs.

He curled up by my heater when I took him home and did not want to leave. It was snowing. Did not even limp when I set him out though.
Heard another trapper say all dogs are the same breed. !@#%&@! dogs.

They are the bane of trappers. The worst is people have to run to the vet with them when usually at worst they would be a little sore and limping for a few days. Vets have an interest in making it sound bad. They sure aren't going to tell someone their dog is fine, No money in that!
