Toyota Tacoma lifts?
« on: January 24, 2016, 11:46:03 AM »
I recently bought a 2007 Tacoma and am going to be putting a lift in it. I was wondering if anyone could share a picture of your lifted truck.I was thinking a 4 inch lift because a 2 inch seems kind of pointless and six inch seems like too much. But i don't know for sure but anyway here is a picture of my truck.

Here's mine with 33s...what size tire are you wanting to run? That will determine what size lift you should get....33s and 2-4" would be good...35s and a 6" is a must

Not sure on the older Tacomas, but use Rev-tech leveling lots on the newer truck. 285's fit nicely

I would highly suggest staying with a 3inch and 33s if your lifting it. I've driven the 6inch 35's and they don't drive as well and lack power. I'm in the process of changing my wheel berrings right now in mine, not sure if the lift had something to do with it but I will be keeping my next truck stock I think with upgraded aggressive tires.

If you get 35s you need to regear it....I have plenty enough power to smoke the tires with 33s...I also have a locker and haven't needed 4wd yet

Before you decide to lift, and the height you want, do some serious research. It's not just about looks or tire clearance. Depending on your suspension system you can get into serious, and expensive issues like drive shaft and pinion angles, u-joint wear, vibrations, steering geometry, brake line length, alignment problems and others. As a rule, the higher you lift, the more each of these become something you will have to deal with. It can get real expensive, real fast once you start correcting the geometry problems that a lift produces.

Can't lift a Tacoma more than 3" without a drop bracket. Do not use a spacer lift like revtek. Only lift to do is a coil lift, look into eibach or OME lifts.

What size lift did you use?

It came on the truck but it looks to be 2-3"... And it's plenty for me...I wanted a little more clearance with bigger tires without needing to climb into the truck...I've had a Toyota with a huge lift and 37s and it got old climbing up into it

I am thinking of going with 32" tires because they look good on my dads full size chevy with leveling kit so i figured they would look even better/bigger on the Tacoma.

Here's my old Tacoma. Eibach springs which gave me about 2.5 inches. I later switched out to Old Man army 885 springs which gave me 3 full inches. Another thing to consider is getting upgraded upper control arms to help keep alignment in spec. I went with Light Racing arms. Also a 2 inch add a leaf. 285/70/17 tires. Really liked this setup.

This.
You see a lot of Tacoma mall crawlers with lift kits.
I wouldn't have one.
I had to pretty much rebuild my 2006 Tacoma suspension and even with 2", there are geometry issues to contend with.
Do not use a preloaded shock to lift it...all you get is a look with rough suspension and less travel.
I used Old Man Emu springs (removed the third leaf on the rear pack to reduce the lift) and Bilstein 5100 shocks set with no pre-load.
Rides great on and off road, doesn't look silly and not much hum and vibration.
Also, you can save a ton of money ordering out of state and picking items up at ARB in Tukwila.
Ask me how.
