How many guys or girls out there hunt and shoot traditional Archery? What kinda bow do you use? I have a compound now but I'm thinking about getting a trad bow. Thanks Jason

I bought a samic sage at riverside archery. Its priced very reasonably is a wooden recurve and comes in lots of poundages. If you really like shooting a stick bow you can buy other limbs to change the poundage.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I would find a nice used bow or one like the samic and see if you really like it and get into it.
Then you can send the big money if you like. I run several trad bows. My 3 fave are zipper/widow and stalker.

Traditional Archery is a lot like fishing.
You might start out with one bow, but in a few years you will own a couple.
My first "Traditional" bow was a Ben Pearson fiberglass takedown I bought for $50.
I started having so much fun shooting that I started buying other used bows I found at garage sales and other places...
Then Ebay...
At one time I owned more than 35 bows.
My financial situation changed and I had to sell off most of my collection, but I still have 5 of my own, and 6 bows for my kids to use...
I like recurves, but really makes no difference to me as long as you have fun shooting.
Thats the whole point.

I agree with buy cheap for your first one then when you do pick up a good bow you know it's worth it . I shoot and hunt with a Yellowstone Custom Bows longbow that I got this summer . 68 in. length , 57 lbs. at 30 inch draw . I can't put it down , I have 4 recurves and 3 longbows , but right now this one gets all the love.

Been hunting with stickbows for 30 years. Make my own wood arrows, build my own strings, broadheads are reusable if you don't lose the arrow.
My current hunting bow is a Blacktail Elite recurve made down in Reedsport, Oregon. Have several more recurves, longbows, and a couple selfbows.
The Samick Sage is a great starter bow. Start out with a liteweight bow to learn the fundamentals and basics of good shooting form. Winter is a good time to pick a used custom bow, some guys change their bows more then they change their underwear.

If your just switching there's no easier transition then to the new martin jaguar elite. Has a compound riser but tuned for traditional and is a pretty sweet shooter. In texas I shot a lot of 3D about one shoot every weekend(sometimes 2) so I got to shoot a lot of different bows other guys brought. Damon Howatt, now Martin, makes some great recurves, the howatt hunter is probably the best. Better then a bear grizzly in my mind. Eventually though I got bit by the selfbow bug. Tons of fun to make your own bow from a chunk of tree. Make arrows out of saplings(ocean spray) and points from obsidian I collected in Oregon. If your wanting to get closer to nature, this is the way. Traditional or primitive though, welcome to the addiction!
