I saw a doe about a month ago that had the classic "blacktail" I tired to take a photo but it didn't come out as clearly as I'd hoped

Whatever, its a mule nothing more. As far as I know  there's whitetail, black tail and mule deer.

From the pictures provided, it looks like a mule deer.  Care to elaborate on your scientific research on its bench leg status?

I've hunted this unit on and off for years. I've taken deer in the higher elevations that look like mule deer with the benchleg tail, I've also taken bucks that are more benchleg looking than the one in the picture. So there for I believe that the one pictures has primarily mule deer genetics, but has to have some blacktail in him.
