I will not say who told me or how I know the person who told me, or how they know Buddy. But they do know him and This deer was killed in British Columbia and at a high fence hunt. This is sad to see it made our record book with no proof it was shot here. The guy must have taken a old tag and used it. That's all I'm going to say about it.

The only odd characteristic I noticed on the other big buck he killed (not the state record) was the blunt tipped main beam. You will often see that on high fence bucks. That being said... it doesn't always mean high fence... and vice/versa.. some high fence deer don't have those blunt tips..it's just something that is more common in high fence than in the wild.

I know the state book doesn't care they just want the $20 but doesn't B&C require DNA testing on world or state record entries?  Just a question, not flaming the hunter or the buck.

There's way more hunters out there every year that kill big bucks and find big sheds in Washington that keep it to themselves and close friends than are ever posted on the internet.  By a loooooong margin. :twocents:

I agree but a whitetail like this in Asotin County has never been photographed or seen by anyone else? That is the part that is tough for me.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Here is a BC high fence operation.. a lot of big WT but I didn't see any that looked like those two...certainly some similar characteristics on few though.

It's a small world.  No one kills a record animal without people knowing....

And they shouldn't!  If I killed a state record, I'd be bragging all my life.  Everything about the story minus the location....

So we finally have some answers.  A new Washington state record! Non-typical whitetail, scored 246 2/8. Taken by Buddy Hughes in Asotin County, 2013.  I'm surprised this Buck remained under the radar for this long! Awesome deer! Congrats to the hunter!

Are there answers or just a name to go with the buck? Anyone actually know Buddy Hughes?
Where has this buck been or his sheds been for the last __ years? The hunting community is a small world.
 :dunno:
Very strange.

The hunting community isn't as small as you'd like to think. And not everyone takes trophies as serious as some do. Then there are those who don't want to bring attention to their little piece of paradise by announcing to the world all the great trophies they've taken and where. All it does is bring in more competition.

Take the area I fish in Alaska. There are 70 inch moose taken there pretty much every year. Sometimes 3 or 4.  Because of the regs there, it's mostly a local only hunt and it doesn't get much attention from outsiders which suits the locals just fine.

Then you have the old timers, like my dad's generation who were mostly meat hunters. Antlers were admired when someone got a big one, but they usually weren't saved as they just piled up and got in the way. The group my family hunted with over the years in the Quinault area probably took 100 or more bull elk in that time and the only one I can think of that anyone saved was the 7x7 my uncle took back in the 70s. My dad took over 20 bulls including some nice 6x6s and never saved a set of antlers. I know that is hard for some to wrap their brains around, but that's just how it was.

I think what's throwing some people off is the fact that, except for farm deer, know one on earth is accustomed to seeing a deer like that.   They just don't pop up in the wild very often.  If it is wild, then we will surely see a follow up of some sort with B&C.  I'll withhold judgement till then.
