Do you find that in certain areas coyotes don't respond to rabbit distress calls? 

In an area I have tried hunting a few times this year the coyotes don't seem to respond to distress calls.  I know there are a lot of coyotes in the area but I have not been able to get any to come to a call.  They will respond to locator howls but not pay any attention to a rabbit distress.  On Saturday afternoon I set up and began calling and after about 10 minutes I saw 2 yotes about 700 yards out mousing.  I watched them for about 10 minutes as they worked their way down the draw towards me but didn't even look towards the call.  I cranked it up some and I know they had to hear it but they just continued mousing.  At about 350yds I got impatient and took a poke at one and hit it low I think in the leg or foot. (a trip to the range yesterday determined that I was sighted lower than I thought)  Even at 350 yards they acted like the call wasn't even on.  I tried mouse squeeks and rodent distress and got the same reaction.

Anybody experience this?  I know that this area doesn't get any pressure so I don't think they are educated to calling.  It is an area that people walk on the gated road a lot though.

I got the same treatment today. Tried multiple calls including a femal invitation just in case there was a horndog out there. Just couldn't pull them in. Last nite was clear so maybe they decided to take it easy today. There's days when you can't even buy a coyote. I was hunting today where there was quite a bit of pressure this year though and they may be getting call shy. Are you sure you weren't busted comin in?

try howlin at them and what not.they may be used to the distress call. try and howl to make them think there is a bigger and badder dog in there territory.

The 2 on Saturday I know had know idea I was there.  I watched them for a good 30-45 minutes mousing their way down the draw.  That's what got me thinking because they didn't even act like they heard the call which they had to @ 350yds.  Maybe they were so intent on mice that a dying rabbit didn't interest them. 

Yesterday I made about a half dozen sets in differant draws and the only time I got response was from locator howls and would be from a couple draws off.  I sat a couple times with distress calling intermitingly for 30 + minutes.
