Chemical smell
« on: February 04, 2016, 10:51:58 AM »
I was curious if there is a good spray for mounts that have a chemical smell to it my wife keeps complaining about it or anything that will obviously not mess up the mount but cover up smell

I guess it depends on what it is. Original scope mouthwash kills any smell you put it against. Buy a good atomizer spray bottle that creates a really fine mist like the one's used for greenhouses and spray it over the mount so your not soaking it but the scope still binds to the odor molecules in the air and some of it will drift down onto the mount and absorb the odors coming off.

I had an elk hide come back from a tannery a few years ago and it wreaked of some kind of chemical. Didn't smell like I thought a tanned hide should. Guess we just got used to it or it finally went away. :dunno:

My deer head took at least 5 years before we could stand having it in the house.

You might try Febreeze, but it's only a very temporary solution.

African game?  To me, African game left to be done in the country and then shipped is the worst.  You probably don't even want to know what you are breathing!
