30-378 wthby mag,
300 RUM just a hair behind
7mm RUM is in there too
25-06 can compete
22-250 is getting pretty competitive

the balistics are pretty close between the 270 and 7 mm until you get out aways, and the 7 mm caries more knockdown power.

Are we taking a test? :chuckle:

I think the 7 mm mag is , but I will have to check the bailistics for those two?

As far as a factory load suitable for big game (deer at least)... I'd have to say the .257 Wea. is probably it... at least to 400 yards. 100 grain NBTs are pretty slick... and factory fodder runs 3600 pretty easily... that's tough to beat.

I know you can load 120s in a 7mag around 3600... same goes for 150s in the big a$$ .300's... but you don't see a lot of that stuff on shelves. If ranges are extended to 600 or 800 yards... some of the high BC stuff would come into play... but at ranges where "flat shooting" really matters... 400 yards is probably a better standard.

I shoot 100 grain NBTs at around 3350... dead on at 200 is about 16" low at 400... that's plenty flat for coyotes... or deer. I'll have a turret for the stuff beyond that. I think any round that shoots less than 18" low... with a 200 yard zero is plenty flat... so, what do y'all consider flat?

From reading this and your above thread if I was you I would get a 7mm mag. The 7mm is a much better cal. imo then a 270.

I have both and the 7mm shoots flatter, out further, than the .270 shooting 140gr. NP out of both. :twocents:

.338-378, .338 laupa, .338 edge all with the 300gr seiara .768 BC shoot flat and hit realy hard at long range. shooting a 180 NBT all are around 16 low at 400yds with a 200yd's zero. There are lighter recoil cals out there that shot as flat but dont have the punch of the .338 cals.

.338-378, .338 laupa, .338 edge all with the 300gr seiara .768 BC

Perhaps the price range should be posted before we start throwing $3000.00 rifles up for him to compare to :twocents:
