Brant hunting and decoys
« on: January 31, 2016, 02:44:15 PM »
Hunted Brant for the first time this year and had a blast. I am trying to find some decoys to buy used. Anyone have any advice on where to buy some?

Good luck finding used dekes.  Most people I know that hunt them only haul them out a few times a year so there isn't a huge market for them in the area.

Check Amazon, eBay, craigslist, then watch all the big outfits that sell them for inventory clearances.

You don't need brant decoys to hunt them.  But if you insist you can buy standard honker floaters or super mag floater ducks and paint them yourself.  You can also buy the tanglefree brant decoys.  Now would be a good time to purchase them as they may be on clearance at different facilities.  Most places discount at seasons end.

I have also ran across 3 different post for brant decoys this season.  Keep your eyes peeled and if they keep having 3 day seasons or no season, more will come up for sale.

The Sportplast are the cheapest decoy bought new, available from Knutsens. For $5 more per decoy you could buy Fowl Foolers burlapped dekes and have something that's much more durable. It's your coin.

Just look for old Heters magnum foamer Ducks or geese & repaint or  cut out some silhouettes out of plywood on a 2x6 those are easy & cheep Brants are not picky this option allowes more volume which I would take over realism u then could make 'V' boards if u want
