Oregon Pistol Permit

I want to get the Oregon Pistol Permit. I guess you need to get a class in, is that something you can take here in Washington? and can it be applied for through the mail or do you have to go down there in person?

I am not sure of the process but, .... I read in the WAC News letter that I received Monday that they will be processing OR permits at the next show in Puyallup.

Not sure if it's still the case, but when I got mine earlier last year the Multnomah County Sheriff said that they were only issuing CHL (in oregon its a concealed handgun license) to residents of bordering counties to Oregon, you might make some calls to them and other counties.
And you do need to take a class and at the end you'll get a signed certificate from the certified NRA instructor, the class is real simple and 2 hrs long.

Same guy that puts the classes on here in Vancouver, he will have all the info you need.

If you get it at the show in Puyallup try to be there early.
 
Got there @ 9:30 - waited in line until 2:30 with over 100 others.
It was worth it but if we had thought it out, could of helped set up a table with friends and got in early before the gates opened.
They walked up - no line - processed and done in a few minutes and back to their table.

I couldn't do the Feb. 10th class, but I'm signed up for the March 28th class at 1pm. They have another at 6pm the same day.
It's $40 for the Oregon only class and $80 for the Utah class which includes Oregon.
I'm going for the Utah permit class and will get both Utah and Oregon pistol permits, It should also be good for the Arizona pistol permit.
I have the Washington State Pistol Permit and when I visited family back East I got a Non-Resident Pennsylvania Pistol Permit.

I got mine through Multnomah county. On Oregon's web site they say that Hunters Safety courses are fine, but it doesn't say it on Multnomah's. and apparently Multnomah thinks they are special and if it doesn't say it on THEIR web site it doesn't apply. Also the Hunters Ed cards don't specifically say "handgun", so again even though Oregon says its good because its a course offered by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, Multnomah was saying no.

I almost left the office but then I heard they have this same "problem" with Military guys coming in with their Rifle certification cards, I decided I was gunna be a pain in their butts on principle! Our Military men and women should be able to come home and get their permits even if they were not certified on handguns in the military.

I don't get where you guys are saying that hunter ed cards are good enough to satisfy the "handgun" safety class.  They are only eligible if they include handguns in the training class and as far as I know, Washington Hunter Ed classes do no include  Hand Guns 

On a side note, anyone know why Grant County quit issuing out of state licenses?

Some hunters ed classes do. Mine did although that was 16 years ago. That being said most of the handgun safety courses are not all that from what I have heard. Sure there are a few legit classes out there, but I think most are geared towards getting you your permit so they just hit the bare minimum to meet the requirements.

You watch the video on line print the receipt, but you have to go to multnonah county to get the card

 Which County is it the easiest ton get the Oregon CHL (Concealed Handgun License)? I looked at the map I'd like to go to one of the following Counties, Multnomah, Columbia, Clackamas or Hoods River. It will be a three hour plus ride to get to Portland, the others border Multnomah County so it would take much longer to go else where if it easier.

Pennsylvania offers a online Hunters Safety Coarse if any one wants the hook up, the cost was $19.50.

I'll be taking the Utah, Florida, Arizona, Oregon class in Everett next month and after that I'll head to Oregon for the permit.

Sheriff Jeffrey Dickerson of Columbia County Oregon will be at the WAC Puyallup Gun Show on April 23rd, & 24th to do Oregon Concealed Pistol Licenses, Call WAC for the paperwork to fill out ASAP. they get it right out if you are a member. WAC PHONE NUMBER IS 425-255-8410.

I got my Multnomah permit and the handgun class was waived because I'm a range safety officer and handgun training is included in that course and in the Hunter Ed classes I've taught. I had to bring my RSO certificate with me to the sheriff's office.

Multnomah is what I heard also. Just took the course from Shaun Curtain. Very easy to understand and comprehend wonderful class glad I did it.
