Bacon grease for coyotes ?
« on: January 18, 2016, 12:51:58 PM »
I was reading an old thread (2010) about bait for coyotes and got me thinking. Like many of you, I have an empty spaghetti sauce jar on the counter that I pour bacon grease into rather than plugging up the sink drain. Has anyone used this as a coyote attractant before? I was about to toss it but wanted to see what info was out there first. Thanks

We used bacon grease a lot when I was bear guiding.  Bear would get it on their paws and track a scent trail wherever they went.  Worked great!  We did have a lot of coyotes come in while hunters were on stand.  Though I have ever tried it exclusively for them.  Maybe it was the bacon grease - maybe it was the macaroni and cheese :dunno:
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Really wish I didn't miss the best baiting days here in Washington.

when it was legal to bear bait in our state , i would try all different smells to see what would come into them ,when i would cook hickory smoked bacon the coyotes would come to  that every time ,so some times when i was tree stand hunting i would take one of those battery operated socks put bacon grease or estrus scent or what ever i was trying to hunt that day ,and lower it down from a string after plugging the battery in ,i had a bull elk tear the place apart one time after putting that warm estrus out
