Lots of great manufactures out there Hummingbird/Lowrance. I use a Hummingbird helix 5 si/di/gps on a 15ft sylvan. Installing is quite easy don't over think it and you'll be good to go  ;)

Two I'd recommend are a Lowrance Elite 7 Chirp of the Humminbird 899ci HD SI. Both are excellent and in your price range. Cabela's had a scrramer deal on the 999ci HD SI a while back as well, but doubt it's still available. I'd definately stick with the Elite series if you go Lowrance. Many guys I know are dropping their HDS units and switching to the Elite's. The Hummingbird Helix series are great as well, but spend if you want a bigger sized screen. I like the details of a bigger screen, so I went with a pair of the 899sc HD SI's. Got a great deal, but was disgusted when 6 months later I could have got the bigger 999's for the same price during a blowout sale. Also, I'd definately recommend drilling it into your transom for the best results. :twocents:

As for mounting I also would go directly to the transom. Some mount a plastic board like cutting board to the transom 1/4in thick 4/6 w 6/8 L. The idea is two holes instead of three and if you knock the transducer off your not adding more holes to fix.

The Cabelas in post falls have a bunch in the bargain cave.

You should not have to drill the transom. There should be an overhang of the bottom past the transom. Drill up through this overhang and bolt an aluminum 'L' to it and mount the transponder to that. You can countersink from the bottom so your stainless bolt heads will be flush with the bottom metal.

 :hello:

No problem, got home after dark but will go out and take a photo in a minute.

First three pics are of my addition for my second FF.  The cross pieces on it are because at the angle it was, the plate was not wide enough (it was a scrap I had laying around). The last pic is of the original FF mount that came with the boat.  If your boat does not have the overhang, this would be harder but you could probably screw the transponder to a piece of material that was bolted to the transom above the water line.

The strainer is for a wash down or bait well pump.

I'd just weld a tab on.....and make it big enough for an anode. Money in the bank.

I second the Dragonfly.  I just picked up the Dragonfly 7PRO w/CHIRP technology.  Get the one with DVS transducer.

Nice choice. Is it the Elite 7 chirp?
