Late season yotes
« on: January 15, 2016, 10:51:31 PM »
I know in jan they start to pair up and know that they are not as responsive to distress calls this time of the year, my question what's everyone's take on sounds for this time of the year? More howls, challenge barks and howls?what's your thoughts.

Me and a buddy are going out Sunday so this is a question I have as well. I have a foxpro and on the west side. Can anyone tell me what sounds would work best? Female howls and whimpers like yoteslayer recommends? Very much a rookie at this. Thanks

If you want to hunt around tri cities you are better off driving an hour or two.... Basically in any direction there is a lot of ground around Starbuck Pomeroy Dayton and along the Snake that is feel free to hunt or register/get written permission to hunt... Seems like everyone wants to hunt coyotes these days and any public ground feel free to hunt around tri cities has been pounded... The young dumb ones ate already dead and the older ones are smarter every timethey hear vehicles and shortly after the wailing of another dying rabbit.. Coyotes are smarter than most people. Be quiet. Do not slam doors and keep conversation to a whisper. Scout the area you plan to hunt on google earth and make a plan on going into the area from the down wind side and have a back up plan if the weather changes.. I like to set up at the edges of draws and canyons that have a good field of view and make sure you are down far enough that you are not skylined or silhouetted I like to set up near brush or a small tree.  Do not move if possible while calling and use a rangefinder.. I often range likely shooting areas before I call I have probably shot more coyotes by walking into them than by calling keep your eyes open while moving into your area and stop every little bit to scan often times you will see them before they see you
