backpack waistbelt adjustment

Just curious where on your hips it rides I've seen videos that say the top of your hip bone should be in the middle of the belt but I always seem to have a bit of a gap on the bottom half.how bout you guys

Heavy loads I have to add padding to gain comfort.  A thick piece of foam fills all gaps.  Do position it middle of the belt
