HELP!!! HELP!!! HELP!!!
« on: February 16, 2016, 06:07:54 PM »
My benelli vinci has a problem  :cryriver: the back sight bead (if i got that wrong its to metal bead not the fiber optic sight) has somehow been pushed down into the rib so it is now lower so low the top of the bead is almost level with the rib. If someone knows how to fix it or where it can be fixed please tell me, I would like to get this fixed before youth turkey season. Any help at all would be vary greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

Take it to any gunsmith. Pretty simple and quick fix. Remove and reap for another bead, or leave it and have another installed. Simple and cheap.

Lots of guys never use the center bead. Wingshooters don't aim but point so I've been told. I used to do a lot of trap shooting never sited bigh beads on a bird if I did it was a no bird

Not needed.  Just an additional alignment tool to make sure your lined up down the rib if needed.  Otherwise if you think you need it take it to the gun smith.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Find a suitable pair of pliers and pull it out.  Then press in a new one.

Those of us that have shot a lot with shotguns don't need the 2nd bead as your throw and swing have been built in over the years.  Comes as second nature when wingshooting.  The OP made mention of wanting it to be good to go come youth turkey season.  I feel a second bead is important for kids and beginners learning how to align the barrel properly on the target.  I learned with two beads.  My youth guns have a second bead for just that reason. :twocents:

Yup 2nd bead is to force the shooter to put there cheap on the stock low and tight.  Not needed after muscle memory takes over.  I have one on my Trap gun, every now and then after I mount the gun, I look down the barrel and say oh crap that's not right and remount.  In any case it should be a easy fix, just needle nose pliers and it should pop out

Can't say as to the Benelli, but my Mossberg has a threaded mid bead.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

Yeah, Benelli should be threaded.  They are easy to break or twist just the bead off so be careful if doing yourself.  Never force it at all.  If that bead breaks then you have to drill and use an easy out...not good!  Your gunsmith will have a screw driver with a collet on the end made just for this task.   http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/shotgun-tools/shotgun-sight-tools/large-all-diameter-sight-installer-sku080000094-18651-41793.aspx    Less than a five minute fix for them.  If you do not have a bead tool you can use a Dremel tool.  Dremel collets are usually a little large but you can wrap aluminum foil around the bead head until you get the right diameter.  Once locked down you just use the Dremel as a screwdriver and back it out.

This is assuming the thread locker Benelli used has gone bad so it will work out easily.  If it does not and you have a camo coated barrel I would take it to a reputable gun smith.  He will know just how much heat can be applied without ruining your coating.  Such an easy fix for him it won't cost much at all.  I'd bet it is less than $30.  I'd rather pay that than pay to have the barrel recoated!

If the bead is easily turned I would take this opportunity to hit the patterning board and dial it in for turkey.  Then use calipers to measure the height once sighted in just right.  That way you can 'lock it in to just the right spot for your young turkey hunter.  Might be a good thing it happened now!

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
