QUICK LITE PORTABLE BLINDS
« on: July 15, 2016, 08:13:36 AM »
I am trying to find different designs for waterfowl portable blinds that can be easily set up and moved for hunting both west
and east. Anyone have any suggestions of where to start my search? When I say easily set up will have several grand-kids from 10 to 17 using these at times so the designs needs to be as simple as possible.

Not looking for layout type blinds as have information on them and where we plan on do most of our hunting this season they are not workable.

Will be doing searches on this forum but haven't found any yet.

I plan to make a little blind with pvc and camo netting. Have all the pieces cut and numbered so I can break it down and stuff then in a bag for transport.

TO: vandeman17  -  did you use a particular design or just made a rectangle with the pvc pipe? The Blind I was thinking about would be expandable and hold from 2 to 4 people depending on how many come along OH and a dog too.

I've used chicken wire to make portable blinds for years. Use 3' wire with 1" holes. I tie in natural cover into the wire with zip ties. I anchor the chicken wire with doweling placed ever 2'.  I drive the doweling into the  ground with a rubber mallet.

I saw a basic design for it that I am going to modify for my needs. I have a bunch of pipe left over from landscaping so it will be a fun project. Might actually start on it today

I think you will find that pvc will not be very useful as is for reusable fittings, as they get dirty and scratched, they will not twist easily to line pieces up, nor will they seat completely for proper length and strength at the joints. If you go with pvc, use the gray stuff as scratches in your paint will not show so brightly. If you use the pvc, you might think about sanding the pipe ends down a shade so they slip in and out of your removable areas (glue the others) and then drill a hole for cotter less hitch pins to hold them in place.

That is a good idea. I have lots of scrap pieces so this was going to be a trial and error effort for me. It will be fun to mess around with different ideas and see what works this best.

Aero outdoors makes a portable 2 man blind that can be converted to a 4-6-8 man blind. I got three of them on a discounted price and set them up on our lease. Sold them when we lost the lease. But they would camo up great and the ducks and geese would be "in your face"
