@JDHasty

I could not agree more with your ILA comments.  My 13 year old son is the 4th generation in my family of NRA life members. It was grandpa's gift to a newborn.   I am a Benefactor, my dad an endowment Life.  I wrote a letter to the ILA post 594 and asked what their plan was now, challenge in court?, and why they did not do any proactive fighting the bill like they did 20 years ago with 696 when Charleton Heston came and did a speaking tour and print ads where everywhere.

I got back a very snotty reply that said they did everything they could and I needed to give more money.  I was so upset with the arrogance and tone of the letter I almost resigned.

The ILA and NRA-PVF is infested with Washington DC establishment types who are just too cozy with the eGOP.  DO not resign, the NRA needs your support for Firearms Safety and Competition that they sponsor and no one does that better.  There is a general housecleaning in need within the ILA and PVF and until that happens send your Second Amendment donations to GOA.

If the ILA and NRA-PVF don't make money, they will change their game. Sadly don't think many their care about Liberty or the Constitution, but $ talks. They will serve whoever pays them most just like any other Mercenary.

They absolutely do not impress me as being the least bit sincere or committed, and when you throw in the times I have been lied to by them regarding what they were committed to do... .. . Let's just say:  I have no confidence in them at all any longer.

I did not resign and won't.   I have a temper, or so I have been told so by my wife.  The NRA does a lot of good stuff.  Plus I enjoy having life member stickers on my cars to make liberals uncomfortable

What I would propose is to box the leftists/stateists in by putting a separate measure on the ballot that says:

a) if you steal a firearm you are going to prison for five years, no early release no parole etc, for each firearm stolen.
b) if you are in possession of a stolen firearm you are going to prison for five years, no early release no parole etc, for each stolen firearm in your possession.
c) if you commit a crime while you have a stolen firearm on your person, you are going to prison for twenty years ON TOP OF ANY OTHER SENTENCE, no early release no parole etc, for each firearm stolen.

This ballot measure would also demand that a database be available online in which ANYONE could check to see if a firearm they were considering had ever been reported stolen.

And remember:
The NRA-ILA is not going to be of any help in fighting this latest ballot measure, they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of the establishment Republicans.GOA is a much better place to donate to protect and preserve the Second Amendment right now.   Still donate to support the hunter safety and competition that the NRA supports, but don't give to the NRA-ILA or NRA-PVF and I say this as a Benefactor member and father of three Life members of the NRA.
I agree with the sentiment entirely, lock up criminals and throw away the key.  But absolutes breed victims as well.  That gun you just went and bought from whatever forum could have been stolen.  Bgc does not require serial number run thru dB and people do not always, report immediately.  Now 3yrs later you use it in SD and now you got to prison as it comes up stolen.

If this wins, expect more.

Until there is no money in gun control for politicians and initiatives fail (this would take Seattlights reading Emerson's Self Reliance rather than the communist manifesto), this will be a yearly thing until WA is CA.

These politics are no more than "people hurting others they don't like via the violence of the state". Those that don't like guns, or self reliance, or people with self respect and decency, Emerson readers, etc... can sit back and watch their enemies suffer.

I am not a Noam Chomsky fan at all. But he does speak the truth saying, "A successful democracy turns humanities natural aspirations into hopelessness". When I see garbage legislation like this, and the retarded masses clapping for it, I certainly feel hopeless.

Well said.

This will pass, unfortunately they found a path that will work for their agenda.

And thanks to the NRA-ILA not showing up they think they have an easy mark.  Why would they think any different?  Washington Gun owners have been supporting the NRA-ILA for decades, but the loyalty and money only flows one way with the ILA.

You can throw all of the little "Look at me, I hate the NRA" tantrums that you like, but you are cutting off your nose to spite your face, IMO.

The NRA-ILA does not have the funds to battle every anti-gun cause that comes along.  In the State of Washington they are currently involved in the fight against Seattle’s new tax on firearms and ammunition.  They were there at the beginning of the fight, and they are currently involved in the legal appeals of Judge Robinson's ruling.

So, contribute to whichever group you like, but I think that bad-mouthing the NRA is just plain foolish.  They do pick-and-choose their legal fights, but they have won many legal battles over the years in support of your gun rights.

This same "extreme risk" bill came before the Washington legislature in spring of 2015.......Washington House Bill 1857.

Guess which organization was there to fight it, and kill it ??  Why, the NRA, of course, with the help of other gun rights groups.

Read all about it here:

I do not hate the NRA, but I despise the NRA-ILA and for good reason.  The same reason I despise the establishment Republicans.

Care to defend your statement in light of my links?

And remember:
The NRA-ILA is not going to be of any help in fighting this latest ballot measure, they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of the establishment Republicans.

I'll refresh your memory:

It's one thing to have your own personal agenda, for whatever reason.  But it's quite another to mis-state the facts in support of that agenda !!

OK, I will rephrase that:  The NRA-ILA is not going to be of much help if past performance is anything to go by.  I have never said they don't lift a finger, what I have said is there are better advocates at this time.  GOA being an excellent example and IMHO donations that are directed toward defeating this latest threat are better spent going to GOA whose efforts will be more commensurate to the resources they have available.

Gun Owners of America, a Lobbying Group, Grows in Influence – NYTimes.com

While it might be increasingly potent, the group is not rich.

Gun Owners of America’s total revenue in 2011 was less than $2 million, compared with the N.R.A.’s nearly $220 million. The group spent $1.3 million last year to lobby Congress, while the N.R.A. spent nearly $3 million. Its campaign contributions last year were $119,850, placing it at 2,669 on a list of 20,968 lobbying groups ranked by the Center for Responsive Politics. The N.R.A. spent $1.5 million, putting it at 230th. Gun Owners of America has 300,000 dues-paying members; the N.R.A. has five million.

So, GOA spent more than half its total revenue trying to defend our gun rights, while the mighty NRA spent less than 1.5 percent of its revenues doing likewise?

How can that not be unconstitutional?

It's not.....if it gets nay traction, then NRA and others should immediately attack it legally.  To be honest these moronic initiatives should be thrown out by the courts before they go anywhere.  The 2nd Amendment rights are rights, not open to change based on how somebody feels.  Just sick of this crap.
