Winchester model 63
« on: February 19, 2016, 09:51:53 AM »
I thought some of you guns nuts would enjoy this.  My grandpa got a Winchester model 63 for Xmas the winter of 1935 as a Sr. in high school.  He shot the heck out of it, and often used it for "camp meat" taking grouse to toss into the pot.  The rifle was in okay shape it had the normal nicks and dings of a gun the worked for a living.   He died in 1989, and the gun has not been shot since.   My dad got a wild hair, and sent the gun back to a smith/restorer in the Midwest and asked them to make it as close to "factory new" as possible.  My dad then asked me to take it this fall to camp and get some camp meat with it out of respect.  With an request like that how can you say no.

Great gun and great story, That 22 rifle will last for a bunch of generations. Have you taken many grouse with it?

Thank you sir.  I actually have no idea how many it has accounted for.   My dad said in the 50's and 60's my grandpa would plunk a couple just about every night in camp.  Back then their camp would be been above the old Sprit Lake pre Mt St Helens or up the Little Wenatchee in 245.  I shot my one just to do it, and put back in the case.  It's just too pretty now.  I'm going to have my teenager shoot one this fall as well.
