These are great guns, hell even made stickslinger a shooter!   I have been very impressed with slingers, thing hits everything it is pointed at, well almost .  Though I don't think I would call them short or lite.

Does the one without the brake have a 22" or 24" barrel? Mine with the 22" barrel weighs 10.8lbs with scope and bipod attached...definitely not what I would call "light"...unless I'm comparing it to my Sendero.

24" and I weigh about 11lbs with scope and bipod

Carry a Hawken for miles and miles.Lol Lite is a relative term.

That is pretty heavy. Im kinda lookin a police model with a 20 inch barrel too.

I just need to get on down and check em out.

I didn't take a number to ask specifics, and I couldn't read the tags from behind the counter, but all the VTR's that were on the shelf were $729. I'm sure they are priced better elsewhere. When I bought mine, Joe's had the cheapest price on them, and Cabelas SHOULD price match it for you.

Here's a 3 shot group from mine, although its only 50 yards (the 100 yard benches had a pretty long wait). 50 grain V-max Moly from Black Hills. I think I will be getting a Jewell trigger for mine after shooting my Sendero with the Jewell in it today.

Read a review this weekend on a new VTR. Before it was ever shot the guy free floated the barrel by grinding the stock out and mixed up some bedding. That gun was shooting down to .38" groups at 100 yards breaking it in. On the upside under .75" Very impressive for a 700 dollar rifle.

I think they will shoot .75" off the shelf for someone who bench shoots alot.

The rifles arnt free floated and are not bedded. For a little work and for what this kind of guns intensions are. Id do the mods for sure.

Whats it cost to have that done?

Seems easy enough to do yourself. Basically take a dremmel and hog out the stocks ribs so when the action is assemebled no part of the barrel touches the stock at all.

Bedding it is pretty easy too. Mix up the bedding and pour it in. Set the actioned barrel assembly and snug down. Once dried, remove the barreld action and trim away any that got pushed up and over the top edges of the stock. Then put it back in and tighten it up.

The dremeling took awhile, but easy to do if your semi mechanically inclined.
