Sounds like a blast either way.  I've got a wolf and elk tag for this year.  I'm hoping to get over for some hiking and scouting this spring/summer to try to find one for myself.

No need to go all the way to idaho!  Where i was shed hunting today was a dead moose and deer within half mile, and wolves howling nearby.  Take as many as you want, you have my permission

21°yesterday morning. Ended up moving positions an seeing 1 grouse, 3 turkeys, 3 deer, 3 elk and 1mmoose. 2 sets of wolf tracks traveling together a day or two old also. I'm trying tofind some areas with some vantage points to glass from but with only three plowed roads to choose from there's not much of a choice.

Good for you I hope you get one. Try coyote calls as alternative to the howling they hate those things!

Woke up this morning to 20 cows an calves in a bunch. Right above them were 4 big bulls. 8 whitetails and 4 other elk I scared off howling. Moved over to a service road by Jericho mt. Hiked up to it and am going tostay for a few days. Lots of sign. Getting up early for a all day hunt tomorrow. End of day three.

I wonder where they were during season? There was a lot of people hunting there and all I heard about was a few deer and a wolf. We wandered over to Weitas Ck and some guy got a spike.

Some down in Lowell area

Can you be more specific. I'm serious about following up with recent activity. I have no set location to hunt, just where the wind blows me.

Go to
Lowell about mm100 there is a bridge crossing the river ,camp river rafting out fit there go down the road until you see another bridge cross it and head up the road or keep going straight and end up on another fs road , now of you get lucky and see a fs ranger ask him because they have no
Love lost. I might have a card or call the ifwl in Lewiston

How's the snow over there?
On the north face depending on elevation is ranging from a couple feet to around 6'. I was as high as 4500' today and the s face had a couple ft. The n face I was walking on 6'. Down around 3000' there are still high accumulations in the shadows. During the day you haveto pick and choose where you walk for the sink factor. Sun on the snow=sink to the knee. Snow in the shade=frozen concrete.

End of day 4. Just when I was leaving this morning a fog bank rolled in. It took me 30 min to reach the first clear cut, by the time I got there it was burned off. I hiked around Jericho mt and up to green mt and back. I set up for three hrs in a clear cut on my way down.

 What I've learned.
If anyone says they shot a wolf over here in the timber, they're lying. They are probably a thief too.
These wolves use the roads like we do. I've noticed more traffic on the closest roads to high snow levels, where as elk and deer are the next tier down.
They are spotting them and smelling them from above.
I have not seen one wolf track that is not moving. So I feel my chances are better finding a good location and staying. Letting them make a round.
Good hike today, feel more confident for tomorrow. Beef stroganoff with noodles, then bed.

You find any kills yet? The bear guy said he had a little luck with a cow call. He didn't get one in but had one answer him. Is there lot of snowmoble tracks up there. Can you get in Swamp Ck rd., if so go to the first right and to the gate at the end of the road. Straight back is a new clearcut, to the rt is reprod, and N of the CC is timber with more trails then you can count. Going E on the trails will take you to a huge CC canyon. There was wolves there during elk season.
