Monster dead head muleys from Oregon
« on: February 21, 2016, 08:56:02 PM »
Sorry if this shows up multiple times or has already been posted. I tried to post from my phone but it wasn't working I think. So this was at the Sportsman's show in Yakima today. Had the privilege to talk to the owner about the dead heads and hear the back story on them. He was a super cool old guy and it was fun to hear about some of the other bucks he had like the whitetail he also brought in that scored 209. He said he just sold a 252" mule deer as well (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh). Hopefulyy once in my life I will get to see something this big alive.

Do you have the back story? Those look massive. I can see why they wouldn't back down from one another...

From what he told me they were found by a ranch hand down in Oregon after the winter back in the 40s. He traded them into the bar to settle his tab, a guy bought them from the bar in the 60's for 400$ and then the current owner bought them in the 80's. That's the story from what I remember. They think they might have been brothers or a father son because of so many similarities between them.

Man, that is some serious bone. It would suck to go out like that...big buck in the prime of your life. Hopefully they both got to breed some doe's before it happened (I'm sure they both did in previous years!)

Old guy said the man that found them originally found them in the dirt after the winter. I'm sure something chewed on them.

:'(   One of the worst things about the deer family... locked antlers killing prime specimens.  Fortunately it is a decently rare event...
