Teaching G-kids how to hunt predators

I am not a predator hunter but a couple of my grand-kids want to learn to hunt predators and as we will be hunting close to home on the west side and I thought it would be a great way to let them learn a few things about hunting skills etc., but I know nothing about predator hunting so I have tried to do a little research on this topic here and now want to ask a few questions.

I want them mainly to learn patients and dead slow movement, which will be hard as their slow is my running speed.

1. should we use only shotguns on the west side? Will be hunting mostly public land like National Forest; DNR & wildlife areas. Maybe down the road a little some private land. I have a 243 but was thinking a shotgun might be the gun of choice because of all the brush & timber in the areas we will start out hunting.

What size pellets is standard for coyotes?


2.  do people hunt the westside all year or do you stop hunting say around march or so until the fall?


3. what to do with the carcass, do we have to remove them from public lands or do you just leave them but not in a well traveled area?

1) Either is fine.  If shotgun, I have had mixed results with lead and other BB shot and would suggest #4 Buck
2) I normally have other things to hunt and do except late Dec or Jan through the end of Feb
3) I can tell you what not to do:  I tossed one in the garbage can once and someone thought that a satanic cut had been skinning dogs alive.  How that would even possible is something the knotheads sent out to investigate didn't even consider, but I would leave them in the field.  Turkey buzzards will find them if up in the mountains.
