Ridgefield Hunt Cancelled for Thursday and Maybe Saturday
« on: January 27, 2016, 06:05:21 PM »
FYI, I just received a call from the manager at Ridgefield NWR who told me the hunt is cancelled for Thursday, Jan. 28. I had a pick for Thursday, hence the call. He also said the status for the Saturday hunt is uncertain. I asked what had happened but he said he could not tell me. Anybody know what's up?

Probably closed all the refuges in the area due to the Feds shooting and killing one of the ranchers.  I imagine they were worried about retaliation.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

With a lease and access to other private spots, why would you want to hunt the refuge with 19 other blinds with a 1.4 bird per hunter average and shoot at smiling mallards.   :o

I'm a little offended that they only closed the hunt portion and not the bird-watching portion of the refuge. Members of the WWA and other local hunters take an active role in maintaining the hunting area and denying them access during a hunting day as a precaution is wholly and unrealistically reactionary. Any militia that show up wouldn't want to occupy that swamp for very long. It stinks down there. That said, I know I do show up from time to time to "occupy" a blind and I don't want to leave unless I shoot something.

The averages here were pretty low this year. Too much water everywhere else.

My Ridgefield birds per hunt is in the high 6's. I grew up hunting there, and I like it.  That and it's 10 min from home.

Yes their statistics are extremely skewed and inaccurate.

No. The stats are as right as they can be. Keep in mind areas like Ridgefield attract a lot of new and inexperienced hunters.

There was a group of 3 hunters this year,
 got the first pick, :IBCOOL:
fired 58 shots between them, :yike:
killed 1 bufflehead :chuckle:
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!
