NEED HELP WITH RUGER DEERFIELD CARBINE!
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:16:33 PM »
Hello and thanks for reading....

I have a friend who lives on Kauai.  He has a Ruger Deerfield Carbine in .44 mag with a broken extractor.  Ruger has discontinued that model, which means they have stopped making parts to repair them, and they will not fix it for him.  He doesn't have access to a gunsmith on the island.

I have called every place I can think of (with no luck)  to try to track down an extractor for him or even a complete bolt assembly that he can just swap out on his own.

If anybody has any ideas of places I could try to find parts, or you have parts, please let me know.  Feel free to PM me.

Thank you for your time

No that is for the 44 carbine.  What he has is the Deerfield carbine (in 44 mag).  They are different models and have different extractors.  Confusing I know  :bash:

Thanks

Have a look around on that website that he linked. They may have it. I'd wager that if Numrich doesn't have it, you're going to have a really hard time finding it.

I spoke with Midway, they haven't shown that part in stock for a long time.  I have also tried Brownells, Numrich and Jack First. Nobody has it.

I found a guy in Indiana who deals with discontinued and obsolete firearms, he says he has a couple of Ruger extractors but not sure which model they go to as Ruger has made several "similar but different" variations.

Nobody makes aftermarket parts for that particular rifle either.

 :dunno:

Yes, that's a good idea.  I was hoping a fellow HuntWA member had a drawer full of extractors, but I guess I'll have to post on a Ruger forum. lol

They don't make that model anymore or the parts for it.  They don't have any parts in stock and they won't.  The gunsmith at Ruger was helpful and gave me is best guess on where to find it.  Nothing yet.

Alot of good suggestions . Ive always wanted one of the Deerfields or 10/22 mag , but i heard the reason they were discontinued was because of problems like these. Which seems to be indicitive for semi autos chambered in rimmed straight wall cartridges .

Yes, I believe that is why they discontinued that model.  He said it broke once and he sent it to Ruger and they fixed it.  It broke a second time and when he sent it to Ruger they sent it back saying they are no longer making that model or parts for it.  Nobody is making aftermarket parts for it either.  Cool guns but not one I would want to own since you can't keep them running.  But, he really likes that gun so I'm trying to do a favor for a friend.
