I have an I phone, how's the battery life last when your using the map?

If you have cell service it's not too bad. If you're out of service, it does go through the batteries.

I use my iphone and OnXMaps on every hunt... I find it invaluable. Regarding saving the battery. I hunt in an area where service is unavailable so you can download the area(s) you will be hunting and save them in the "cache." I keep my phone in airplane mode 90% of the time. Then, when you need to know where you are and either mark a way point, overlook etc you just turn the airplane mode off and then use the gps feature on the phone in conjunction with the cached maps. Saves the battery in a big way! You could run it constantly but let's be honest, you'll only need to look at it periodically.

I don't think you have to switch off of airplane mode to drop a point or see where you are. In my little bit of playing with it since Hunt 3.0 came out I can turn on tracking with the phone on airplane mode and it will lay a perfect gps track. Haven't tried dropping any points yet

I just checked... You're correct, OnX maps runs even if in airplane mode.
I end up closing the program after every waypoint drop or viewing because if you run the GPS continuously the battery is drained quickly. Sorry for the confusion.

Got a question. I have my ohv trail layer on. How do I read the trails, as far as what color and dotted lines. What's what? Is it non motorized or motorcycle only?  I'm sure there is a place that explains them, just can't find it

If you are a RMEF member they offer the app free for a year.  Just did mine last week.  You have to make a RMEF online account but once you do they give you a code.

Just wanted to say the onx app proved invaluable on my spring bear hunt this weekend. I spotted a bear from over a mile away high on a ridge, using my predownloaded topo maps I was able to pinpoint the location the bear was, drop a waypoint there, drive to the place I intended to camp originally, and hike up a ridge blind and find the same bear in the same drainage. I've never really used gps before but now I truly see the advantage. Once my free years subscription runs out I will be renewing the app. $30/year is a small price to pay for a little extra peace of mind and the ability to have all of that information right in the palm of my hand
