I saw this and looked onxmaps up and bought it. One question, why is it a faded shade where I want to look at. Everywhere I look up it has a light haze over it. I zoom out fast and the areas around are nice and clear. I'm new to it , so I was just wondering. Thanks

Might have to do with the layers you have set up. If it is a piece of private versus public or state versus federal, etc.

It's like that everywhere, I took that pic by zooming out fast. It didn't get a chance to adjust

Do you have the layers turned on for national forest or federal land or whatever it says?

I have the chip in my garmin etrex 20 and I absolutely love it. Didn't realize where I was hunting I crossed between gmus several times made a big difference as the regulations are different between the two.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

I have an I phone, how's the battery life last when your using the map?

If you have cell service it's not too bad. If you're out of service, it does go through the batteries.

I use my iphone and OnXMaps on every hunt... I find it invaluable. Regarding saving the battery. I hunt in an area where service is unavailable so you can download the area(s) you will be hunting and save them in the "cache." I keep my phone in airplane mode 90% of the time. Then, when you need to know where you are and either mark a way point, overlook etc you just turn the airplane mode off and then use the gps feature on the phone in conjunction with the cached maps. Saves the battery in a big way! You could run it constantly but let's be honest, you'll only need to look at it periodically.

ERIK
I don't think you have to switch off of airplane mode to drop a point or see where you are. In my little bit of playing with it since Hunt 3.0 came out I can turn on tracking with the phone on airplane mode and it will lay a perfect gps track. Haven't tried dropping any points yet

I was actually just looking at their site... I have used it before, the 30 day trial. It worked well and had very detailed info. I would recommend it.

i have the onx for my gps and i forgot it at the house last weekend. headed over east and crested a ridge into a canyon with close to 40 mule deer in it and ran into a private property sign so i turned around. got home and double checked that chunk of land and it ended up being state land. never again will i forget my gps with the onx app while out scouting
