Winchester Model 70 with mismatched bolt
« on: February 25, 2016, 09:16:21 PM »
So last year I picked up a Winchester Model 70 Classic Laminate in .300 WSM online because it was threaded and the reserve was low.  Took delivery but never fired it.   Decided I didn't want to hang a heavy suppressor off the thin walls of a .308 barrel threaded 1/2-28.  Listed it here, no interest, so sold it on GunBroker.  Few months later the buyer calls and tells me it has a mismatched bolt with .473 face  (WSM is .540).  Seems honest and I can't dispute since I never shot it.  Guy who sold it to me is long gone.

I plan to give buyer back the $500.00 or take it back and make a project of it.  What should I do???

1)  Refund him and move on with my life
2)  Rebarrel it
3)  Part it out
4)  Try to find a bolt

I'd be interested in buying it.

I think I'd buy it back from him & turn it into a project of some sort

Thanks for your replies. Didn't mean this as a classified, but sold to high county.  Too many projects!

I must say that it takes a stand up guy to square up on a rifle well after the sale. Most guys get 3 days.

The buyer had no idea that I never shot it, so it would be a bold claim.
