Daughter's New Rifle is Great
« on: March 01, 2016, 06:05:55 PM »
Just finished putting together my daughter's new rifle. It's a Remington model seven compact with an 18.5 inch barrel. Rifle is chambered in 7mm-08.  Topped it with a Leupold VX 1 2-7x33 with Leupold rings and bases. Butler Creek sling. Total weight (unloaded) is 5 lbs 14 oz. Going to start her shooting some 120 grain Hornady Lites. I must say I'm a little jealous of this rig. If I do a multi day pack in hunt I may have to borrow it. Can't wait to put some rounds down range.

Just picked up this exact gun.  Haven't scoped it out yet.  My daughter is pretty pumped.  Ordered some managed recoil ammo to break her in to the gun.

Was thinking of something very similar for my son, what was the cost of the gun?

I have about $875 into the entire package. A little spendy, but great quality and should last a lifetime.

That's a small price to pay to hunt with your daughter.....and a good job of being dad.

Sweet rig! She will absolutely love it and will last a lifetime. You just can't go wrong with the 7/08.

Way to go dad! She can hunt with that for the rest of her life. My all time favorite round. My son's first deer was killed with a 7mm08. That was over 25 years ago. He got away from hunting completely for a long time but he just came to me recently wanting to get back into it. I almost cried! I gave him a Winchester model 70 in, you guessed it, 7mm08!  I also have a Tikka t3 lite in 7mm08. I can't wait for deer season to get here!

Let me know if you decide to handload for this rifle. I have a great 7mm-08 load I put together for my 13 year old daughter. Very low recoil and deer killing energy out to 200 yards. Even tamer than the low recoil loads you can buy. She used it to take her first whitetail last fall. DRT.

I started hunting with a model model 7 in 243. I sold it when I outgrew it to buy another full size  243. Im wishing now I would have kept that little gun. My brother has a full size m7 in 7-08 that I bloodied last year. It loves 150 nosler ballistic tips. Not a very fast load but killed my deer quick at 170 yards last year. Solid choice of rifle and cartridge!

That's a cool rifle. When she outgrows it, send me a message.
