Dead Beaver
« on: March 02, 2016, 06:56:44 AM »
Just saw what looks like a dead medium beaver S of Roy about a mile on W side of highway. Dont think it was smacked too bad. Maybe a local trapper is interested? Wasn't there last nite on the way home from work.

What's crazy is how well beaver remain intact after being hit by a car.

My guess is that it's more of a health concern. They don't want people picking up raccoons, deer and other carcasses, hoping to get a free mount or pelt, while ultimately ending up with diseases. Then how they're going to handle and dispose of the excess parts after taking it home to a residential area.... :dunno:

Bruce might chime in but if I remember right, it was a safety concern by the state patrol. They dont want people pulling over and causing wrecks and traffic problems because deer, elk, bear, coyote or whatever was laying on the side of the interstate.

Didn't even think about that  :chuckle:. Definitely makes sense!

Its a ridiculous law about not being able to take roadkill in the state of Washington. We are one of the very few states that does not allow this to occur. Most states allow this if you call the Fish and Wildlife department even to just 'advise' them of the possession. HOWEVER...there is hope. There is a current bill in the house/senate that would allow this to be legal so lets all cross our fingers.

I tried to get some dialogue about changing the law. Enforcement is against it. It seems like they are against everything.

Good copy Humptulips; my bad.

Does anybody know if Wolf Haven still accepts road kill critters?  I dispatched a road hit deer a few years ago (after checking with the Yelm PD) and WH sent an employee out and picked up the carcass.
