coyote
« on: March 18, 2016, 09:18:43 AM »
Surprised to find a coyote in our Bobcat trap. He was very calm. The trap is about 12X20X55 so he could all the way in before the door tripped. He was missing a foot so maybe he was extra hungry.

 :yike: AWESOME!!!
That must be a lucky cage. That's the first one I ever built and that's what I caught my first bobcat with.  I'd save that pelt and put it up one of he wall. Congrats.

With that missing front foot, he must thought going inside was easier than digging around the cage....  Nice catch

:yeah: I probably would have let him go being he only had three legs, probably not much threat to fawns or calves.

I would bet it could cover the ground as fast as a four legged coyote. I read all the time about two legged coyotes in combining country and they seem to make out.
I remember Jim Scoggins had a dog that only had two on one side. Little guy had no trouble keeping up with other dogs.

I had the trap there for about 3 weeks and no action using a beaver hindquarter for bait and feline fix lure. My other 3 traps in the area are routinely sprung and knocked around. I assume coyotes are setting the traps off.
