Big backyard blacktail rub

Found this behind my house yesterday.  If it wasnt on my property I would have thought a bear was to blame.  Looks like he hit it 2 years in a row.  For reference the trunks are 12 inches in diameter a piece! Guess I know where my stand is going next year.

Pretty big rub for any blacktail. Did you look for deer hair?

That's a good size blacktail rub.  I've seen some like those on cherry trees as well around my parents place.  They will use them every year.

I've been keeping my eyes open for new rubs for the last 6 weeks while in the woods - most of my current locates are on conifers, which surprised me a bit.

Those are really big rubs though - I'd check for hair too - that will confirm the animal.  The trees appear to be alder - which in the past I thought the deer preferred - but I was surprised to find that elk hit the big alder really hard too, only the rubs tend to be higher up and often 24 inches or more, top to bottom.  Sometimes a deer will rub just below or at the bottom of an elk rub too, which makes it really confusing.   

The height of the rubs appear to be appropriate for blacktail - a trail cam next fall in addition to a tree stand sounds like a winner to me.  I think you're probably right - it's likely a massive old buck!

I know for sure its a deer rub based solely on my location.  I was a little caught off guard with the size of tree(s) he decided to throttle though.  Couldnt find any hair but i was wishfully hoping his shed was laying there. Unless they havent dropped yet

I had the same thing on my property 2 years in a row on a group of 5 or 6 alders.  Looked like a it should be a huge aggressive buck.  So I put out a game camera and guess what.....it was a spike coming back every night just destroying those trees.
