Hwy 97A sheep fence
« on: March 13, 2016, 04:37:09 PM »
Nice to see that the jump ramps are being utilized by the critters.
PS, that's a winter kill mule deer doe on the other side of the fence  :(
Kind of a good/bad picture.

This sounds like a dumb question already,
but what is the point of the fence if it has "jump ramps" ?

I believe the ground is higher, toward the top of the fence on the highway side, allowing for them to easily go back over, but not so easy to cross to the road side. :dunno:

Works great besides all the holes and damaged areas. Rocks smash that thing weekly and it seems no one takes care of it

:yeah:  It's getting pretty bad. Hopefully the WSA or WDFW addresses these issues before too many more sheep get smoked.

WA WSF is partnering with WDFW, Wenatchee Sportsman's and DOT to repair the fence and do some upgrades to it so it will be less likely to be damaged in the future.  It is already in the works.

Sweet. Hate seeing animals stuck on the highway side freaking out and throwing themselves into it. Wish it was complete or not there. Watch several deer get wiped out by freaking out and bolting into traffic

Here is a great article about the fence project and its 79% reduction in wildlife-vehicle collisions.  Even if you don't want to read it all, scroll through for the photos and captions.  This was a very worthy project.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
