Idaho Unit 27-2 Goat/Sheep
«
on:

Anyone here know anything about 27-2 for goat/sheep? Probably no surprise but I'm interested in goat hunting but I know a lot of sheep hunters have hunted it and seen goats in there. I'm thinking of applying this year and wondering how tough access is. I hear a lot of sheep hunters float the Salmon or backpack/horsepack 15+ miles to get into the unit. But Huntin' Fool says there is some goat access from Loon Creek Road.
Any input is appreciated!

The Loon Cr TH will put you in the middle of nowhere, that's for sure. I've never hiked up to any elevation in that country but it could be "goaty"

There's definitely goat access via Loon creek. I saw a couple goats in there two years ago. Definitely has the habitat up high.

I've hiked through there. I never saw anything on a 20 mile hike but this was 15 years ago. Desolate country.

I haven't looked at the dates for the 27-2 hunt...but the upper loon Cr area CAN get snowed in pretty early in the year. Of course you can always fly in there if that happens. Just be prepared to leave early if the snow starts coming down!

PS. if you go in there, please forgo a weeks worth of Latte's and use that whopping $30 to buy a wolf tag!
