Are you proficient at skinning out the head and feet? Along with splitting the lips, eyes, and nose. Fleshing the meat, fat, and membrane off the skin? If not and you salt the hide, what good are you doing the feet and head? If you salt over an inch of fat and meat your not doing the skin any good either.
Your best bet would be to get the Bear Skinned out ASAP after death. Laying the skin out in a cool shaded area while you work on the meat. When you get back to camp and the hide is good and cooled down (Head too they hold a lot of heat for a long time) place it in a cloth game bag and hang it up so flies don't lay eggs on it. Before placing it in the bag remove any eggs you find. Typically they will be in the mouth, nose, eye lids, etc. Make sure you hang the bag in a cool area.
Also don't get the hide wet. If it is bloody soak and dry the area with paper towels or something.
When you get out of the woods have a Taxidermist already lined up and get the hide right to them.
