Some info on my toys
« on: February 03, 2009, 07:56:45 PM »
Hi all, glad to have some experts to bounce this off of. I have a couple of toys that I inherited from my dad and I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on them for me.

The first is a Whippet Model C, a bolt-action .22 that is pretty spot on, but single-shot .22s can be a bit annoying  ;)

The other is a Ward's Westernfield Model 30 pump-action 16ga. I'm noticing the 16ga is fairly uncommon (unpopular?) and was curious as to why. Also, am I able to take any birds with this or is it purely a range toy?

I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

Don't know anything about the Wippit, but shoot the heck out of the 16ga.  Kind of hard to find shells, but the 16ga is/was real popular in the southern US.  Great little gun just a Tweener to it fell out of majority use.

The "whippet" model C was made for harware stores in the 1930s, can't remember if it was J Stevens or if it was Savage (Savage bought Stevens but I don't recall when)

The Monkey Wards shotgun was probably made by Mossberg.

Hope that helps

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to take the 16ga out to the Renton Fish & Game Club tomorrow and give it some workouts :)

I'll grab some pictures tomorrow when I have them out.
