Congratulations on the bear.  I definitely shot my Monroe bear based on the thought process of "its a bear, its standing broadside, its in range, boom, I wonder how big it is."

That's a great statement that many can relate with.

Congrats.

Honestly, I'm kind of embarrassed to post pics. With 4 inches of fur on the back, and 4 inches of fur on the belly, and 4 more inches of fur on the sides, bear size it very deceiving. Initially I didn't take the shot. Then she went off into the woods a little bit. Then I talked myself into feeling alright taking a smaller bear considering all the other things I have going on during this hunt, and the "oh, what if i don't find another one" was playing in my head. When she came back I procrastinated a few more minutes before taking her and when I walked up to her I was quite disappointed. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I can't help but think I really should have stuck to my first gut reaction which was to let this one go. No doubt she'll be fine eating and her fur will look good on my wall, or whatever I do with it.

I fell into the same line of thinking last deer season. It was my first season hunting deer, and the first two weeks I had a couple of 100% shots on younger deer. One being a yearling, and the other a fawn(Which I don't regret at all). I remember thinking "Man, theres no way I can take this deer. Its too young. I'll just pass on this one and I've seen so many, getting another shot will be easy!" Needless to say I was empty handed at the end of the season, and I kept thinking back to that yearling I passed up.

Moral of the story - and I think this especially applies to people who are new to hunting - if its legal, safe, and ethical, take the shot. Don't pass up an animal you would shoot on the last day of the season.

Nice bear, and congrats! I hope i'm as fortunate as you this fall!

The majority of people in this unit will not fill their Spring tags.  Congrats!

DRock has shot a few bears and I have shot a few that he claimed  :chuckle:, but he would shoot this in a heartbeat.  I think its because he feels powerful being able to pack it out all by himself.

But seriously nice work.  Buy another tag and whack one in the late summer/fall.

Congrats on the bear. I'm sure I would have made the same decision you did. I had the tag last year and was never able to get a shot off at one.
