is it worth it?

Depends.........Can you spend several thousand dollars a year on hunting licences you don't use and not have the wife get pissed?

Are you willing to do it every year for the next 30 years?

Are you willing to Front 10-15K worth of tag fees every year?

Are you willing to do it knowing that you will most likely never draw some of the tags you apply for?

If the answer is yes.........then its worth it.

Well said.  I can afford to put in for all of these and know that some I will never draw.  I do not play lotto or go to casinos so this is my gambling!  Like I said before you only live once and in 30 years I do not want to kick myself for not putting in for all of these tags.

For elk hunting, I am sorry that the fronting of huge amounts of money is not true...

Colorado, Utah is chump change...  That includes a bonus point

Arizona is about 700 dollars that you get back all but about 160 dollars to purchase a bonus point.  You flushing about 6 X 160 + intrest = 1100 dollars some of the top areas will cost you 10 years.  So now your into it about 1800 dollars.  But your still ahead of the game...

Nevada is about 1300 dollars for the license and tag to put in....  Biggest money for elk. But you get a huge chunk of money back.

Idaho is roughly 500 dollars and your bonus area is going to cost you chump change.  But this state is should kill all wolves and griz in the entire state.

Oregon is a cheap state to put in for but they suck like Idaho... Tooooooooo many liberals taking office over there.   Can be had for rougly 500 bucks and bonus points are chump change.

Montana for a combo is 800 dollars there is a bonus point fee of chump change.

To focus on Colorado, Utah, Arizona you would be in for 750 dollars but would get back a little over 500 dollars if you were not successful.  I think you could put in for some nice hunts for 1500 dollars.  This economy that money will go along way with a family out of work.

This year I'm putting in for a Montana elk/deer combo.  First time I've ever hunted out of state other than mule deer on Camp Pendleton, CA.  (doesn't count)

I have a question.  I thought Colorado and New Mexico was an over the counter tag for elk an deer, was I mistaken or do you only have to get drawn if you are a non-resident.  Also how much does it cost for an out of state Colorado or an out of state NM tag.  If I don't get drawn how much if any do I get back.  Thank you.  I'm also referring to elk and deer only.

Can't speak for New Mexico but much of western Colorado is over the counter tags for residents and non residents for both deer and elk.  There are though a number of limited entry units for deer and elk which is what I and probably most on this thread are building bonus points for in the hope of one day accumulating enough points to draw.
