AZ, UT or WY applicants?
«
on:
January 28, 2009, 10:22:16 PM »
Lots of negative crap on here these days, so figured I'd get us thinking about more positive things...like hunt apps! Who's applying in AZ, UT or WY? Where are you applying?
Decided to change tactics a bit and applied for units 1 and 3B (archery) in AZ...have a buddy with a cabin around there, and figured I'd rather hunt in the next few years than wait for an eternity before that unit 9 tag comes in the mail. Anybody else?
Also applied for speed goats in AZ in the same general neighborhood. It's a real longshot, but the rifle goat and archery elk seasons overlap by three days...wouldn't that be sweet.
I've got 8 points for both elk and goats, so there's a chance, although my odds for a goat hunt are only about 4%.
I decided to pass on Utah this year...decided I'm too far behind for the great hunts to ever draw, so might as well spend my cash where I can draw now and then.
I'll apply for WY points in the summer.

I'm hitting Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Ore. and Id. At least if you draw, you potential for an awsome hunt is way higher.

Got all three apps in. Would love to draw any of them. Hunted Wy. Elk last year.
Had a blast would love to do it again soon. WAcousehunter 1 or 3b aren't any good you should pick another unit.

WY elk points for sure, deer points (probably) and antelope points maybe.
Anyone have any advice on antelope, I really just want to get one, I don't care about trophy quality. What's the best place/way to do that? What state should I apply for? Are there any states with OTC rifle tags that are easy hunts?

No worries, I'm only looking for raghorns...they taste better.
Heck, I've only got 8' ceilings anyway!
Honestly, my take is there's no less than 10 really good units...I've applied in 3A/3C, 8, 9, 10, and 23 over the years, but I switched it up this year because my buddy just bought a cabin in 3B. Probably more 370+ bulls taken out of 9 than the others, but also the longest odds. Seems 400 bulls can come from just about all of them.

I am putting in for points in Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado. I have a good number of points for Utah. I always put in to Arizona just in case.
I also put in for Washington of course. If I come up empty I plan on hunting Idaho and if I get the right connection I will go to Oregon.
Should be rather exciting next five months.

WYoming elk and(Max Points) and just putting in for points on deer. Points for elk in Oregon, and I am putting in for deer in Idaho still haven't decided if I want to get a elk tag. Probably not. If I do not draw for deer I will hunt whitetails in the panhandle!
