Buckmark .22 which one?
« on: January 29, 2009, 04:51:06 AM »
I think Iam going to purchase a Browning Buckmark .22 but was just wondering if any of you have experience with these. I plan on using it mainly for plinking and small game. I like the contour 5.5 but was wondering if I should get the 7.5 barrel instead. Any thoughts? I would be carrying it on my pack during hikes so I don't want to have it too big. Thanks for any help!

The browning is a good pistol.  I bought a Ruger 22/45 with the long barrel, it simulates the 1911 in feel, balance and sights.

I think the Ruger is the "gold" standard when it comes to reliable 22 auto's.  But if the Buckmark fits you and shoots well, go with it.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I think there equal in every way but 1 you get to 2 mags with a ruger 1 with a browning. I am a ruger man all the way but the browning feels better in my hand.

Flip a coin, both are great guns.  I am a ruger fan so that is what I went with.

I have the Buckmark with the 5.5 barrel and I love it.  It's got a great feel and has always been accurate and reliable.  If you're only looking to target shoot, I'd go with the longer barrel.  If you plan on carrying/multi-use, I would suggest the 5.5 barrel.  I have two Ruger rifles and I'm definitely a Ruger fan but I wouldn't trade the Buckmark for any other .22 pistol....Just my :twocents:

I think I'd get the one that feels the best. I love browning shotties but love ruger rifles and pistols. Don't know which way I'd go. Both are pretty cool though. Let us know what you get.

Thanks for the info guys, I will be stopping today to look at a 5.5 camper and a 7.5 contour and I'll look at the rugers while I'm there but I'm leaning heavy towards the Browning. I'll post a pic when I pick one up.

I may be to late, both are great little .22, hold both side by side and in both hands to see which feels better, outside of that i'd say Browning all the way (i own several and the ruger), 5.5 camper is a great pack it along gun, rubber grips feel good in bigger hands, no frills finish and bull barrel, if you havent bought yet browing made some campers a few years back that were finished in camo, would be a pawn shop or gun broker or guns american find though..

Let us know which way you decide to go, JBar.  I think they're both great pistols.  You'd like either one.

I have the 5.5 Buckmark Camper model. I love it! It shot great out of the box and is good to have around the house for killing coons and possums. It is even more fun to take and plink cans with.

I like the rugers as well and have shot them also. When I went to purchase I originally went to get the Ruger 22/45, but after comparing multiple Rugers and Brownings the Buckmark won out for fit and feel. You can also pick up extra magazines for around twenty bucks.

I have both the Ruger and the Buckmark. Both are very accurate, equally I would say. Both are as reliable as a rock. I prefer the Buckmark to the Ruger for the feel and looks and I don't like the take down procedure of the Ruger, all in all, either is a great choice.

I looked at both the Ruger and the Buckmark on Friday. Found that the Buckmark with molded grips fit alot nicer so I think I am going to go with the Buckmark stainless camper with molded grips and fiber optik front sight. I still need to get to Sportsans warehouse in Lacey as I was told they had 3 or 4 different models of the Buckmark so I would like to see what other options I have before I buy.

Thanks for the info, hopefully I will have pic's by early next week of what I pick up. Having my kids enjoy shooting it is something I am hoping for so it's good to know your kids enjoy it Whitey. Maybe it'll get my kids into the pistol shooting sports.

Well I went to go buy my Buckmark yesterday and Sportsmans Lacey and Federal way sold all but one, of course not the one I wanted :bash:. I decided on the camper stainless with molded grips and fiber optik front sight. Didn't know so many people were looking for these things  :dunno:. I guess I'll have to check Cabelas unless someone knows of any shops around that might have it in stock. I'll keep looking!

Sweet!! Looked at the Buckmark and the Ruger last weekend at Sportsman's in Federal Way and couldn't decide which I liked better. The Buckmark was certainly light, but the stainless in the Ruger looked really nice. Let us know what you think after you shoot it!
