Meh. I think she is taking the name of paleo diet too literally. Then the diet she suggests is what most paleo diets actually consist of. I think the main point of the diet is to cut out processed foods and most carbohydrates.

When I watched I was attempting to ascertain her anti-meat bias. she talked about the human dental structures and skipped over the presence of canine teeth

I think the processed foods and lack of fresh vegetables and fruits is the problem with most peoples dietary health today. I personally love the idea of what most people call the paleo diet but I can't ever feel full without some grains in my life. I try to stick to brown rice, yams, and whole wheat when practical.

Ultimate straw man argument. If you are going to debunk an idea, shouldn't you at least understand it? This is the worst TED talk I have personally seen.

Paleo Diet Challenged

She essentially misrepresents Human digestion (we are opportunistic omnivores) and then paints the paleo diet as advocating a hot dog and steak diet. She argues correctly that our ancestors didn't readily have that kind of meat supply. She mentions organ meat, marrow, all the things they would have eaten, etc. but she missed the very point that paleo or primal advocates for getting as close to that as you can. We can't exactly go out and forage nuts berries and the occasional Mastedon so sometimes it is ground beef from Fred Meyer. The meat paleo says is best is lean protein, grass fed and hormone free. If you can eat only venison and wild fish, even better. They all advocate eating organ meat and using all of the animal we can. Paleo also says eat as much vegetables as you can. In a nutshell the idea behind primal and paleo is that processed food is bad for you, carbs from sugar and processed foods are bad for you and that fat and protein from sources like animals, avocados, olive oil, etc are good. Every paleo diet warns against to much bacon and ham because of nitrates, etc. she basically paints an extreme spectrum of paleo even that paleo people would reject and attacks that

The current Paleo diet simply means that if you can't pick it or kill it shouldn't eat it. It is to eliminate all the processed foods rich in carbohydrates and void of any nutrition. In our society fat has been maligned as bad for our health and we were convinced that low/no fat was the way to go. In the meantime we consume more carbs (all sugar) that have increased diabetes 100 fold in the last 30 years and made us obese. Sugar is killing us.

31 days ago I start a low carb high fat diet and have seen dramatic results. Lost 11 lbs, do not have gas. bloating, or diarrhea anymore. I have more energy throughout the day, sleep better, and best of all, I get to eat meat! I am a hunter, I don't shoot a deer to get wheat. I want the meat. Without relying on the constant ups and downs of a sugar rush I also don't get hungry as often and found that I get full now with less food.

Very hard to stick with it. I walk into a grocery store and easily eliminate 90% of the products from my list. Like others said she took this too literally. The idea is not to replicate an ancient diet but to eliminate the non-natural things that we all eat every day. Natural is healthier for us. If it comes in a box, don't touch it.
