Hair loss syndrome around Graham
« on: March 29, 2016, 09:35:25 PM »
Saw two deer today with large bald patches on their sides while driving home from grandkid day. I guess they'll live to fight another year but that's the worst I've seen it look. They were running across road sorry no pictures.

It's been occuring pretty regularly for over a decade now. Usually if they survive through March they do ok. Most die from hypothermia if they loose their hair early and it stays cold and wet. The interesting thing is they grow the hair back and may not have hair loss again in the following years.

I saw a blacktail fawn in the driveway last week with a couple thin patches of hair towards the rear.

Are they losing their winter coat and transitioning into the summer coat?  :dunno:

That's what's going on down here - the annual patchy look that goes along with change of coats.
