Shotgun for son good brand reasonable price?

Looking for suggestions.  I'm purchasing a 12 gauge shotgun for my son for Turkey season.  I'm not looking to pay more than $400.  What is a good brand for this price range? Thank you

Benelli Supernova/Nova will last forever. I've put mine through so much salt water, sand and ice and it just keeps going. I've also heard Browning BPS is good but I couldn't get over the bottom eject

I concur with the Nova because for about 400 bucks you can't beat the reliability. I started on one myself, shot it for 10 years and it never missed a beat. This included fishing it out of the salt marsh after a buddy dropped it overboard and shooting a limit of snow geese. I would recommend the 3 1/2" model if there is goose hunting in your son's future.

I 2nd the Nova.  I own a lot of shotguns.  In the pump realm I have a 870 a BPS and Mossberg 500 and a Nova.  Nova hands down is the best dollar for dollar pump.  Vent rib, glow beads 4 chokes and shallows all shells for under $400

I would look at the Remington 870. My family has stacked up the game, including a lot of gobblers with a trusty ole 870.

This is all great.  I really appreciate the feedback.  It will be his first Shotgun and as much as I would like to say he would treat it like us adults would.   wellllllll  lets just say being hardy is a plus +
Mostly would be used for Turkeys but yes, Geese and ducks are definately something he wants to take up.  Again, I really appreciate the help

I own a Stoeger semiauto. I love it. I think it's identical to the Benelli action. It was about $500. I'm looking at buying my wife the Stoeger Condor. It's a pretty little over and under. $450 at Cabela's. I'm sure you can find it cheaper. It's available in 12, 20 or 410.

I have a Rem 870 Express in 3 1/2 I am going to post in the classifieds very soon. It comes with 3 chokes, mod/full/xfull turkey. Additionally it will come with nearly a case of assorted waterfowl shells and 1 1/2 boxes of Kent 3" #6 turkey loads. I'd be looking for $325 for the whole package, you pay FFL. Don't buy a cheap semi. I wouldn't buy an expensive semi either for how I hunt the saltwater and sand dunes.

I have had my 870 12g for 15 years and it's been flawless. 

I have had my Stoeger Condor 20g for 4 years and it's performed as well. 

Both are under 400$

I would shop for a used Wingmaster Remington 870 in 3 inch, Wingmaster and Express are totally different guns. 10 million Wingmasters cant be wrong.

I've had a Remington 870 express for 25 years and it has never failed from grouse to deer it is my favorite shotgun of all and you can get a lot of options for them slug barrels mounts slings you name it

Remington 870.......   and if you get theone capable of 3 1/2" mags, you're good for everything you can hunt with a shotgun.

No one can deny the 870 is a reliable gun and inexpensive. But is it comfortable to shoot? Especially for your son? How old is he? Is he a big kid? Honestly they are great for the money but I'm not a big guy and I wouldn't want to shoot 3 1/2s out of a pump shotgun. Just me personally. If he's pretty good sized maybe it'll be okay but maybe recoil is something to consider just my

I really depends on how big/strong your kid is.  I had bought a 870 youth 20ga for my 10 year old who's on the bigger side.  It kicks him pretty good.  If I were to do it all over again I would have gone the semiauto route.  Much less recoil.
