Cage Trapping Cats
« on: March 24, 2016, 02:46:52 PM »
I know there is a ton of info on here, but wanting to know if there is any must read / watch on cat trapping (cages) that would pertain to SW Washington.  I grew up a trappers son, and spent countless hrs on the trap line with dad either running a river line in the boat or running through the Mts. looking for cats/yotes and coons.  Obviously that was many yrs ago when a leg hold trap was ok.  I have taken my trappers class, also many moons ago.  I would like to catch a couple cats with a cage, and that is out of my dads wheelhouse.  Any info on that would lead me to material to study would be great.  Thank you for your time.

Must be a western Washington thing? I started trapping cats back in 1985 on the eastside and never caught a skunk in a cat set.

This season it seemed like if there's a tree or a rock, there's skunks!  :chuckle:

John Graham has two cat video's on trapping cats but there not cage trapping I don't think, I haven't seen his cat video's.  John gives a lot of information on his video's and if you every heard him talk at some of the conventions you know what I mean.  I know John personally and he catches right around one hundred cats a year.  You can pick up a copy of his cat video's from his website at:  www.furcountrylures.com Tell him you heard about his video's from me.

Haven't found any info on Washington specifically, however my current collection contains these DVD's:

Cage Trapping Bobcats & Gray Fox, by Tracy Truman & Jeff Yancy   (http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/animal/CTBGF.html  Best of the Videos on how to Cage Cat's.

Caging Bobcats Guaranteed Success, by Mercer Lawing   http://cagingbobcats.com/
Guaranteed Success II
Top Dollar Cat$$
Three Seperate dvd's, Lots of good info, first dvd's of my collection, "Top Dollar Cat$$" has the "Nevada Stretch" and the Fallon Fur sale.

Bobcat-Top Dollar Fur Handling, WSTA by Mike Matney  (Excellent Fur handling, also has the Nevada Putup/stretch) available at the Summer Rendezvous (RECOMMENDED best buy of all)  :IBCOOL:

Black Spots and Silver Bellies "Professional Bobcat & Otter Trapping" by Len Williams
http://www.fntpost.com/Products/Len+Williams/Len+Williams'+Black+Spots+and+Silver+Bellies+DVD
This is Pinchin, but after watching and listening to the info about Terrain and Rubbing, then watching it again but on fast forward it made good sense for set locations.

This is my collection and my  :twocents:

I have one and it works fine. There are a few problems IMO but then I am biased. Prefer my own.
The one thing I would suggest if you are going to use them is it is easy to foul the pan. If you are aware of this it is avoidable but you need to be aware it is easy for something to get up through the floor when bedding it. Have to watch out for that.
