Local deer in there before migrators come in. Not all the big ones are in the high country.  ;)

Get familiar with the roads would be the best advice to give somebody heading over there for the first time.

If its HOT and it usually is. get off the roads and hunt the shaded areas. They will be in bed by day light. If you do see one off of the road it will just be a young and dumb one.

Not sure if you are hunting the Entiat GMU 247 or the Entiat Valley including GMU 244, 245, 246 and 250.
About 80% of the deer are migratory so the opener is much more successful if you hunt the upper valley or scout and develop personal relationship with one of the local bucks in the lower valley.

Not sure where the 80 percent of the herd is migratory information comes from but I have consistently harvested mature bucks over the years in the canyons near the both the Columbia and Entiat rivers during general rifle season. Most people will not venture out as far as I do because the terrain is very steep and rough but that is where you will gain success. The Entiat has a lot of roads which you can access good easy hunting ground from but you will not be alone by any stretch of the imagination. Do your homework and it will pay off.

The 80% migration data is from the WDFW biologists and the collaring data from the Chelan County PUD studies.
I agree that there are some great lower elevation but most migrate between their summer and winter ranges.

I dont understand y the quality tags r so good.  Acording to gps collars on the deer the migratory don't start coming down until end of December. According to the mule deer report wdfw put out. Its hard to belive them big ones r resident that i see in 247 and some other GMUs b4 amd during the quality tags

By the end of december im riding sleds in 3+ feet of snow in the upper valley. All the deer are down by then. If your really worried i would look into the desert unit, those deer dont move
