That is exactly why I wear sunglasses rain or shine while I fish. I don't want to be that guy!

I  couldn't find the Alaskan information on flies in the eye but I did come across this. And now I know why I like fishing with barbless hooks!

Is it actually possible to remove that hook without lossing the eye or sight? :dunno:

I would imagine it depends on the amount of trauma the eye experienced at the moment of impact from the "gear". Corneas can heal and there are cornea transplants available. If the hook went in deep, say you're using a #2 long shank with some weight on the line you might traumatize the eye ball to the point of no return, but you you were to get whacked with a small fly, bead-head nymph like is in video I'd say you may experience 100% recovery.

If any of you go to AK this summer to fish the Kenai, please where goggles or at least sturdy sun glasses, every year numerous folks got  stuck the same way...  Cringed several times when lead cam shooting out of the water at mach 8 towards me and my kids, rarely would let them in the crowed spots...  Sad part guy are walking up and down banks with kids (tiny ones at that) strapped to their back on back pack type carriers, saw a 12 month get hooked in the shoulder.  Saw several other get hooked everywhere from the chest to the nose.  If you do go check out the Soldotna Hospital, they have a manikin right as you enter with hooks sticking everwhere they remove them and then placed back into the manikin....  Ouch....

That sucks!! I took a 2/0 in the chin one time trying to free up from some lead stuck between some rocks. This happend about 15 years ago and I can still remember it to this day.

I pulled, and like an idiot didn't turn my head. :bdid:  The whole rig came flying at me lead first and dangling behind it was the hook. As the weight flew past me I turned just like Neo in the Matrix and WHHAAAM!
Right in the chin the hook burried itself into the bone. It actually broke the fishing line which was only 10lbs test but still, man I was stunned. I called for my buddy to come over and see it. I really wasn't sure what happend at first but when he walked over and saw the hook and about 15 inches of leader sticking out of my face he started dry heaving. We picked up our gear and headed home.
My mom broke into histerics and ran and grabbed the camera and started taking pictures. (wish I had them) She took me down to the local quack to have it removed. We got into the office and the receptionist and the doctor both cracked up. A little shot to the chin with some feel good and they took it out with a pair of pliers.
Wow that one sucked but lesson learned.
Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.
