California Turkey Hunt

Got back late last night from our turkey hunt in California. Earlier this year I decided to give turkey hunting in Northern California a shot with their season opening 3 weeks earlier than ours and very inexpensive nonresident hunting license costs.  Me and my girlfriend made the 11 hour drive last Thursday and immediately spotted turks not far from the campground. We located several more flocks the next day and were ready for opening day. The hunting was great, we knocked down 5 birds out of a possible limit of 6. Its amazing how green it is down there. The country is beautiful with gentle rolling hills, oak forests, and open range. Would definitely recommend California as a turkey hunting destination!

Is it hard to find public land?  Any hogs seen?

Only $57 for a 2 day hunting license, then $10 for upland bird validation. 3 bird limit. And it was all on public land

There surely are a lot of turkeys down there.   The last 3 years I lived there I bagged a spring turkey.  The last year was a big old tom.

Good job! Great pics.... A  few years ago, I went on a hunt out of Albany Texas. There were literally thousands of birds. Sounds like the same kind of country. Lots of fun. We cut it short and took 2 apiece, The season was a little closer, so had to get back to Washington to hunt. Going to go back someday. At the time, we saw hundreds of wild hogs. Talked to the property manager, he said come on down. $100 per day for all the hogs you could shoot. He was talking about raising the price. So do not know where its at now.
