I'm looking to go Turkey hunting this springs since I know I will be stateside for it. I have a shotgun and will have by bow paid off by then so what I need to know is what else I am going to need. Any help would be appreciated and if someone has some unused items let me know I am always interested in getting the basics and then ugrading later. Thanks all.

Well, you will need camo from head to toe. Turkey calls, such as a slate call, box call etc. And you will want to pick up a locator call to locate birds. There are some different choices like a crow call or owl. Pick up some turkey loads for your shotgun as well. If it is in your budget you might also want to buy a turkey vest to put everything in, if not at least purchase a seat that you will be able to sit on. They have light weight aluminum ones that are compact or foam type seats.

Now what about hunting from blinds? do you need to be decked out in camo for that too?

I would still wear camo. Turkeys have excellent eye sight so the more you can hide yourself the better IMO. Plus you don't want to wear blue or red because that is the color of a Tom's head.

If you're hunting from a blind you want to wear your darkest camo or better yet dress in black. It's harder for them to see you inside the blind that way. Also, do not open the back window of the blind. They will see your silhouette.

All that and I'd stay glued to this forum for there's a ton of knowledge here and the guys are helpful to pass it on. they may not give you which stump thy're hiding behind but they steer you fairly close. Get ready because your about to get hooked on Wild turkey and there's now twelve step program to cure it

 I started with a box call they're the easiest to get sounding good other than a push pin type. Buy a tape of calling and study them and mimic them. Also try finding anything you can to read up on them, I personally like the Magazine turkey&Turkeyhunting seems to be the best at giving advice rather then anarrative of how the authors latest hunt went. I see that Sportsman's warehouse is actually carrying it in their racks. Good luck!

This might be a easy one but some people over look....a good turkey choke for your shotgun...primos makes a pretty good one for just 25 bucks..called the tightwad.
