What Gaiters do you use?
« on: April 09, 2016, 10:04:07 PM »
What gaiters are you guys using for hunting?  I have a pair from Mountain Hardware, but they are a bit noisy so I have never hunted with them.  Have been eyeing up the Kuiu gaiters.  Forgot I wanted some after last season until I saw Kryptek had some in their catalog.

I am now using the Kenetrek Gaters and they are built very well with quality hard wear. I would highly suggest them. They are formed to where they fit your boots and aren't just like a tube going down your leg. The camo ones I have are quiet too. Gaters are just as important or more important then waterproof boots IMO

I have the OR Crocodile gaiters that are bulletproof but loud.  I got a set of Kenetrek's and second the quietness.  The material strength wouldn't compare to OR, but it's a trade off.

I would still say the material is tough though and has a second layer at the bottom that is similar to stuff you find on hybrid cloth/leather boots. Denier I believe it's called. The top strap around your calf doesn't loosen up either with the metal clamp on it like some Velcro ones I had in the past. It was annoying because I would have to tighten the heck out of the Velcro strap, and it would kind of itch as you sweated and cut off circulation a tad. These ones you don't have to tighten them down very much just enough and they ride where you want them. They don't have a zipper in the front though but the 2 inch Velcro is strong

An old worn out pair of nylon ones that are now quiet, but leak.  But they are what I have and never thought about how noisy they were when I got them.  They were noisy when they worked well.

I have Kenetreks and Kuius.  I wear them during westside muzzleloader elk season in some very rugged terrain with lots of river and stream crossings. They are both equally good.

I have the OR Crocs and a pair of the Cabelas extreme something or others. They work well and are relatively quiet. The Crocs are totally bombproof but are noisy in the brush.  I wear gaiters 90% of the time.

I have gone through 2 pair of Kenetrek's in 3 years.  First set didn't make it out of my trial fitting as the rivets in the lace holder broke.  Second pair made it three years and the same thing happened.  I bought the Kuiu's last year, they are a little louder because of the material but fantastic in all other respects.  I think the material is a little quieter than the OR's but the material weave has some to do with that.

I'm gona be the odd guy out and say I hate gaiters....they are way too hot 90 % of the time and unless your in deep snow and keeping your pants from freezing I just don't see the added benefit of having your legs sweat like crazy

With that said I've had the kentrek and the OR crocs and with out a doubt when I think I need them I reach for the OR crocs...they are noise but the fit is awesome for me and crossing creeks it's amazing how well they keep the water out when sinched up

I have a pair of the Outdoor Designs Alpine Gaiters and have used them quite a bit since I got them.  They are a bit noisy for hunting, but seem pretty durable.  I use these for riding my dual sport motorcycle for riding FS roads, scouting, etc., to keep water puddles & rocks out, and also put them on for when I am running my chainsaw to keep my shins protected in the brush and the saw chips out when I am cutting for firewood.

But I am also looking to get a another dedicated pair, however undecided which ones to get for hunting only as this pair probably has too much chainsaw two stroke fuel exhaust smell for hunting seriously anymore.

I use a pair or Core 4 Element Cascade's. I mainly use them in the rain and snow. They are pretty quite and tough as heck.

I like the Kuiu gaiters the best so far, but I really want to try the new First Lite gaiters.

I've been wearing a set of Cabela's for several years. I would never order a set without being able to handle them and try them on first. The zipper on one of mine us broken and tricky to get started so I've looked at a couple of new options. They're either too tight around my calves, or too noisy.
Gaiters are a must for west side hunting. Walking in damp brush without them will eventually lead to wet socks.
